The power of collage: Xavier Garcia

Spanish artist Pablo Thecuadro has been chosen by the Barcelona-based eyewear brand to explore new forms of communication

words Enrico S. Benincasa

Born in Zaragoza in 1992, Pablo Thecuadro found in collage the perfect form to express his creativity. He collaborated with Nike, New Balance, Pull & Bear, Instagram, Vogue, W Magazine, Elle and L’Officiel and last year started to work with Xavier Garcia. Pablo created the Barcelona-based eyewear brand’s last three advertising campaigns (Fall/Winter 2018, Spring/Summer 2018, Sun Collection 2018), using photos from different photographers, the likes of Martina Matencio and Noemí Elias Bascunana: “The main goal of this collaboration is to obtain a powerful and original image able to represent the style of the brand at its best,” says Thecuadro. His work received the appreciation of Xavier Garcia in person: “His collages strike up a conversation between people, my creations, colour, shape… the most contemporary expression of the essence of Barcelona,” states the founder and designer of the Catalan eyewear company. Thecuadro’s collages are usually obtained with photos made by others, but the final result reflects his personal vision of photography: “The collages I create express the duality of human nature – who we want to be versus who we really are and which part of us we show to others.” The Spanish artist is thinking of moving to Barcelona because of its great artistic scene.
