Freely inspired by the world of architecture, eyewear by Miga Studio embodies the essence of a bespoke product, as explained by CEO Alessandro Fedalto

What is the best question we could ask you about ‘bespoke’ eyewear? And the worst?
One of the best questions would be: "How did the story of Miga begin?" We started with unique pieces, conceived as bespoke objects crafted to satisfy the individual desires of each customer. The worst question, however, would be: "Is Miga still a bespoke brand?" In a way, we began transforming the company in 2017 with our first trade fair event. Since then, bespoke has become a process. We've brought the bespoke approach into the industrial world, maintaining the quality of materials and craftsmanship while adopting more advanced technologies. One key example: we continue to create our eyewear from 11mm titanium plates, as we did originally, but today we use sophisticated machinery instead of manual methods.

What is Miga?
Miga has evolved into Miga Studio. Since 2019, we’ve embarked on a journey inspired by architecture, which is why we chose this new name. The forms, spaces, volumes, and the interplay of solid and void in architecture influence the design of our eyewear models.

Bespoke means meticulous construction, precise gestures, and the pursuit of perfect proportions. How is this philosophy reflected in the design of your frames?
We use unique materials, such as Japanese titanium and Japanese acetate, yet even more distinctive are some of the processes employed to shape them. Thanks to these elements, Miga Studio’s concept of bespoke design comes to life. Today, we create our models on a larger scale, but they remain true to the original idea of a bespoke object.

What aesthetic, cultural, or historical references inspire your designs?
Architecture is our primary source of inspiration, influencing us daily, sometimes consciously, other times spontaneously. These influences are reflected in all of our creations.

What makes a pair of glasses ‘superfine’? What elevates them from a daily object to an identity code?
We have perfected innovative manufacturing processes for the eyewear industry, turning them into distinctive features of our brand. The result is a harmonious blend of innovative craftsmanship, traditional forms, and contemporary design, carefully crafted to universally fit any face shape.

What is the inspiration behind the new collection, and what details define it?
Two years ago, we acquired a production facility in Italy, and since then, our collections have found a balance between Italy and Japan. The uniqueness, know-how, and manual expertise of each country merge to serve the innovation and originality that define the brand's identity.

How do you choose materials, and which ones best represent your idea of elegance?
It’s a long, almost obsessive process. Searching for distinctive materials for the eyewear sector is the first step in creating equally unique glasses. This is also why we have become the leading brand in Europe in the use of Japanese acetate. For our latest ‘Orbit’ sunglass collection, produced in Italy, we are the first in the world to mount Zeiss Adaptive Sun Photochromic lenses directly on the frames. Aside from their technical excellence, they offer a stunning visual impact, darkening in sunlight and creating elegant, surprising light and shadow effects.

How can a pair of glasses become a statement of identity?
Some time ago, I was skiing on the stunning slopes of the Dolomites when, beneath a ski helmet, I glimpsed a pair of Miga Studio titanium monoblock glasses, 11.5mm thick. You know, when you design a product for a specific target and purpose, and then someone has the brilliance and uniqueness to wear it in an entirely different context, like sports? It was a delightful surprise. That to me is a statement of identity.

When someone chooses your glasses, what are they really choosing? An object, a code, a sense of belonging?
I don’t think there’s a rule. I believe they’re seeking beauty. Simply put. That type of beauty that objects like the first iPhone, a Bang & Olufsen system, or a Riva motorboat convey. The idea of owning, within a certain category, the most beautiful thing.

What sensations do you hope someone feels when wearing your glasses?
Certainly identity. Originality, and a discreet recognizability. Some call it the ‘arrogant detail.’ Miga Studio creates unique details that give the glasses a well-defined personality, a distinctive mark that makes them immediately recognizable.

What’s the world like through the lenses of Miga eyewear?
The latest Zeiss Adaptive Sun Photochromic lenses are paired with Dry Block acetates, creating an evolved chromatic effect. The lenses darken intensely in the sun and lighten in lower light conditions. The eyes benefit from the optimal lens tint without effort, while the frame enhances the natural light of the face at every moment.
