Obsessed with all-around comfort and quality, the founder Byung Jae Jeong tells us about the origin and the vision of a global brand with a truly Korean soul
What were the origins of the brand?
The VYCOZ story began in 2013 in a cramped 15 square meter office. Along with a business partner, I set out with a singular, perhaps audacious, goal: to launch a screwless, functional eyewear brand. The early days were defined by resistance. Because our design identity was so disruptive, the market didn't know where to place us. Ten months in, I found myself steering the ship alone. In 2015 our collection finally resonated with the market. What started as a rejected concept in a tiny office has since scaled into a global brand, now exported by exclusive distributors across 21 countries, with particularly robust momentum in Germany, Turkey, and the Asia-Pacific regions, thanks to the depth of our partnerships.
Can you tell us in which aspects your identity is authentically Korean?
Our identity transcends the 'made in Korea' label. It is rooted in a specific philosophy of evolution. Korea has transformed at a staggering pace, reaching a point where the domestic consumer demands a level of quality and granular detail that rivals the most prestigious European houses. Today’s Korean consumer is exceptionally discerning; they don't just buy a product, they audit its design integrity. In this environment, we believe the true 'Korean quality' is the ability to maintain a steadfast brand identity while possessing the agility to pivot alongside shifting global standards. VYCOZ is a product of this sharp, fast-moving ecosystem. We don’t just react to change; we mirror the high-end expectations of our home market and project them onto the global stage.
Which product features are you investing in most?
At this stage of our evolution, our focus has sharpened: we are obsessed with the precision of our product quality and the stability of the systems that deliver it. Since 2025, we have committed significant capital and energy into our infrastructure. By the close of 2026 we will be capable of delivering 300 unique SKUs within
two weeks. We define this operational excellence through our '3 Comfort' system. First, we ensure the wearer experiences unparalleled physical ease. Second, we provide 'operational comfort' to our partners, guaranteeing a 48-hour response time for global service requests. Finally, we offer 'logistical comfort' through a rapid, reliable delivery cycle. For us, true comfort isn't just felt on the face, it’s felt across the entire partnership, from the first order to the final fit. This level of responsiveness is only possible because of our 'All-in-one house' ecosystem. By integrating design, production, and service into a singular, seamless flow, we eliminate the friction typically found in global distribution.
How would you describe your client profile?
Our core demographic consists of active professionals in their 30s and 40s, individuals who navigate high intensity careers and seek products that mirror their own efficiency. They are a segment that rejects the 'loud' logo culture in favor of restrained, intelligent design. For them, value is not defined by a price tag, but by the longevity and performance of the product. At first glance, a VYCOZ frame is an exercise in understatement. however, our high rate of repeat purchases tells a deeper story. It is only through daily wear that the stability and technical precision of our designs truly reveal themselves. our customers aren't looking for a temporary trend; they are investing in lasting quality.
How have you adapted your style to the European market?
We do not compromise our DNA for different markets, but we do respect the unique sensibilities of the European consumer – particularly regarding structural proportion and palette. In August, we are proud to debut our first Europe-exclusive collection. The primary focus was a recalibration of size proportions to meet local ergonomic expectations, followed by a meticulously curated color story. Staying true to our minimalist character, we have avoided transient, flashy trends in favor of refined, neutral tones.
What are the main novelties in your collections in 2026?
For our 2026 collection, we transitioned beyond the 'activity' label to focus on tangible functional value. We believe that active eyewear should perform as precisely as a piece of professional equipment. This philosophy birthed the INCLINE-X, a prescription-ready running frame. Despite its metal construction, it weighs a mere 12 grams. We’ve integrated a proprietary holder design to eliminate slippage during high- intensity movement. Parallel to this, our new PERFORMANCE sunglasses redefine the running goggle. By utilizing a metal structure rather than traditional plastic, we’ve achieved a lighter profile with significantly enhanced durability and facial ergonomics. This model is optimized for both running and cycling, featuring a specialized RX-CLIP, engineered to sit flush against the lenses.
