The winter sports season has begun, bringing with it a blend of aesthetic and functional challenges. Balancing fashion and performance, ski goggles and masks take on snow-covered slopes and new adventures in style
Every winter, the rendezvous is with the elsewhere: new landscapes to explore, new horizons to contemplate. It is this spirit of venturing beyond the confines of everyday life—across different spaces and times—that inspires Linda Farrow’s Explorer Series (as seen in the opening image). This capsule collection redefines the very notion of luxury eyewear for those with an innate sense of adventure. The eight models, crafted from pure Japanese titanium with 22-carat gold plating and fitted with Zeiss lenses, come with removable rubber side shields and temple covers in a variety of colours. Of course, the quintessential winter landscape remains the immaculate whiteness of the ski slopes—an undisputed stage for sporting prowess, but also for expressions of freedom and style. It is no coincidence that Emilio Pucci’s foray into fashion began with a ski suit designed for a friend…
In this spirit, Balenciaga’s futuristic BB0379S Ski Mask is certain to turn heads. Equipped with a logo-branded elastic strap, it features an oversized mirrored mono-lens that ensures maximum protection. Decidedly sporty in character and engineered for high performance, the Adidas Sport Eyewear SP0120 model is equipped with two magnetic interchangeable lenses: one for bright light conditions, and another designed to optimise contrast in low visibility such as fog or mist. An upper ventilation system also prevents internal fogging. Magnetic interchangeable lenses—practical, quick and secure—also define Vuarnet’s Mont-Blanc. Its generous cylindrical shape widens the field of vision, an essential detail when tackling challenging slopes. This model effortlessly fuses modern aesthetics with cutting-edge technology and the expertise of a brand founded in 1957 from the all-embracing passion for the mountains of legendary champion Jean Vuarnet. It comes as no surprise that the brand has been recognised by the French Government as an Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant.
Under the banner of winter sports, new collaborations are also emerging, such as the one between Divel Italia, Lapo and Neon, which has given life to Fusion Mask— a high-performance ski goggle that is fully customizable in both its components and packaging. Both the frame and the elastic strap are available in various color options, while the single scratch-resistant lens, also offered in a photochromic version, can be mirrored, flash, multilayered or adorned with logomania. In addition, Fusion Mask is also available in an eco-friendly interpretation, featuring lenses made of eco-polycarbonate and straps in certified recycled fibers.
Returning to the enduring appeal winter sports hold for fashion designers, Tom Ford introduces the FT1321: a spherical, understated ski mask offered exclusively in black, a shade echoed in the tone-on-tone logo elastic strap. Its single lens is available in two versions—blue mirrored or photochromic.
Gucci, meanwhile, makes its debut in the world of winter sportswear with Altitude, a comprehensive line of apparel and accessories that also includes skis, poles, snowboards and helmets produced in collaboration with Head. The standout face of this unmistakable collection is Global Brand Ambassador Jannik Sinner, who wears the GG1974S mask in matte black, featuring a metal plaque and an adjustable logo-branded elastic strap. The single lens is scratch-resistant and anti-fog. A champion to follow, then—not only on the tennis court, but on the ski slopes as well.
