A semi-precious stone surrounded by numerous stories and legends. Malachite becomes a talisman to carry with you at all times, even through eyewear.
We are increasingly in need of telling ourselves stories and sharing captivating tales, whether through the clothes and accessories we wear or through distinctive details that set us apart and represent us. And, above all, we sometimes need to believe in these stories. At the heart of a rich narrative lies malachite, a semi-precious stone believed to possess magical and healing powers. In ancient times, it was set into the magnificent headpieces of Egyptian pharaohs and even used as a cosmetic. It was also thought to provide strength and courage to warriors and protect children. Thus, malachite became a talisman to carry with you at all times, chosen not only for the hypnotic beauty of its green stripes but also for its symbolic significance. In some countries, it is even considered the stone of beauty.
Under the artistic direction of Kim Jones, Dior has incorporated real malachite to create the logo featured on the temples of the exquisite men's model CD Diamond S5I/F. With its square, minimalist, and timeless lines, this model boasts a shiny black frame and solid grey lenses. Meanwhile, asymmetric colour accents that evoke malachite further enhance the profile of the sophisticated Kanibaly model by Thierry Lasry. This acetate frame, with its futuristic and boldly striking design, perfectly embodies the maison’s “modern luxury” concept.
It’s not uncommon for the eyewear world to intersect with the realm of jewellery. Vada Eyes beautifully synthesises and connects these two worlds, transferring its fine jewellery heritage into a line of eyewear featuring gemstone-inspired lines, gilded touches on the temples, and branded golden grommets. Designed in America and handmade in Japan, Vada Eyes glasses have distinctive lines and are often available in malachite versions, such as the Trance model (featured in the opening photo by Cydney Cosette) or the Ozark model, which reinterprets the pilot shape with a double bridge. Another take on the pilot shape is found in the unisex prescription model ME2007 by Moncler, with ultra-light aluminium temples paired with an acetate front and tips.
Meanwhile, the female prescription frame Palapa by l.a.Eyeworks embraces “adventurous angles and seductive colours,” as described by the brand itself. This unmistakable style perfectly aligns with the brand’s mantra, “Uncensored Vision,” characterised by the signature “frog toe” temple tips — a hallmark detail of l.a.Eyeworks creations.
Eyewear as a talisman, then, not only makes a statement of style but also conveys a positive message and a sincere wish of Good Luck!
