Absolute White

The purity in color

The purity of white is imposed in fashion by transferring to glasses the charm and determination of an absolute colour, without compromise. Starting with a real legend.

In 1993, exactly thirty years ago, Kurt Cobain, frontman of the band Nirvana, was photographed by Jesse Frohman in a sequence that remained forever imprinted in the iconography of the musician, who died in 1994, at only 27 years old. It was probably the last photo shoot of his life and that grunge clothing, a reflection of a tormented and transgressive soul, became part of the collective imagination. Especially the oval sunglasses, with the white frame by Optical Affairs, an iconic brand created by Christian Roth and Eric Domege in 1983.

Years later, white is still the triumphant protagonist of many fashion and eyewear collections. Its essence as the non-colour colour par excellence and its strong visibility offer the opportunity to highlight sophisticated details or emphasise the purity of the lines. But, as usual, it is the different inspirations and interpretations that make the difference in telling new stories. For Lapima it is above all the tenacious bond with his Brazilian roots that suggests unusual creative paths. And so the glasses of the new Vela collection (in the opening photo) are inspired by the geometries of the sails of the "jangada", a boat that is typical of the state of Ceará. Glasses that take up the movements and sculptural shapes imprinted by the wind and waves to lift your gaze far away, along the sunny and endless beaches of Fortaleza… The natural white vintage version of the Stella and Antonia models is then enhanced by the combination with yellow lenses, a prelude and invitation to bright days.

As are the orange or pink punch lenses that characterise some models of the PunKouture by SM16 x Tavat collection, which emerged from Tavat's collaboration with SM16, the creative workshop behind the Matera-based concept store "Smalti e Colori" ("Enamels and Colors"). Behind Sestini Eyewear there is Carlo Sestini who, despite being very young, has lived several lives, all in the name of fashion and of a personal style that he also wanted to demonstrate in his collection. A successful model, an influencer with almost 500 thousand followers on Instagram, and now the entrepreneur behind a line of glasses that focuses on a sophisticated simplicity, with a strong sensitivity to sustainability and with a particular focus on making accessories that last over time. The new Quindici sunglasses are a quote from the 1963 film "Cleopatra", directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz and starring Elisabeth Taylor, evoking the lines of the Egyptian queen's eye make-up on the front.

From cinema, we shift to a sporty mood that has always been part of Moncler's DNA but that over time has become a constructive element and identity of glasses and luxury urban clothing. The new transparent ML0253 Lancer mask by Moncler Lunettes is characterised by striking discontinuous outlines that define its bold and dynamic character, underlined by the absolute colours of white or black. And white and black are once again the colours chosen by Invu for the Ebony and Ivory edition, a tribute to two iconic colours, symbols of elegance and timeless fashion. The only model offered in both versions has an elongated shape and a reassuring vintage style, with wide temples and ultra-polarised lenses, the absolute pride of the Swiss brand. Vintage shape, narrow and elongated even for Talita sunglasses by Linda Farrow, characterised by side lenses inserted in the temples, while the Nova model with scalloped round circles and shaded lenses is definitely inspired by the 1970s. Gucci also brings a vintage allure to its models, continuing to draw on both its treasured archive and a collective heritage. Ranging from minimal volumes to exaggerated and enveloping ones, from flashy and ostentatious logos on the temples to the absence of any external symbol, it thus interweaves reminiscences of the past with contemporary moods. And so, for all the collections, the colour white becomes synonymous with a conscious, decisive choice, without nuances. And without compromises. Just like those famous Kurt Cobain glasses…
