Glacier

The must-have of the season

In the absolute silence and open horizon of the mountains, or in the acoustic chaos of a complex urban architectural landscape, glacier glasses become the must-have accessory of the season.

It all began in 1957, when optician Roger Pouilloux offered Jean Vuarnet glasses with special Skylinx lenses, capable of reducing reflections and glare, providing a perfectly clear vision during sports performances on the snow. Then, at the 1960 Winter Olympics, Jean Vuarnet won the gold medal in downhill skiing, and the myth of the champion forever became intertwined with that glasses. Currently, the Vuarnet brand, acquired by Thélios in September 2023, continues on the path of innovation, enhancing its roots, its origins, and above all, the unmistakable savoir-faire that earned it the recognition of "Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant" from the French government. Among the most iconic models is, of course, the Glacier, now made of pure Japanese titanium and also available with the new Grey Bluelynx mineral glass lenses, featuring Vuarnet’s exclusive Lynx technology. Characterized by an anti-reflective treatment on the inner surface, they offer 100% UV protection, 90% infrared protection, and 93% blue light protection.

Glacier is also the name of the sophisticated and exclusive model by Lucas de Staël (in the opening photo), which, as the designer himself says, is aimed at "intrepid contemporary adventurers" both in the city and the mountains. As always, the main star is leather, molded onto the strong and generous stainless-steel front structure, with metal-core wrap-around temples to ensure a perfect fit to the face. The obsessive attention to both functional and aesthetic details, as well as purely technical elements like the anti-fog ventilation system achieved through cuts on the bridge and the upper part of the rims, and a rivet system that connects the front to the temples, creates a bold rock ‘n roll effect.

Within an extensive FW 2024 men’s collection, which focuses on the three main pillars of modernity, technical innovation, and quality, Kaleos introduces the Parrado model, round-shaped sunglasses with removable black faux leather shields. The front is made of acetate, while the temples are stainless steel with flexible curled tips for optimal stability and comfort. Fashion has also been seduced by this trend, reinterpreting it according to its own stylistic standards. For example, Celine, with the male model CL40301U, explicitly targets mountain lovers with an aviator shape and mineral lenses that allow for clear, distortion-free vision. The model is completed with a leather piece on the bridge and leather spoilers on the temples, providing additional protection from the sun’s rays.

Dior, another top brand, debuts with DiorNautical, the new men’s line created in collaboration with Stone Island, a fashion brand famous for its cutting-edge designs. The DiorNautical M1U goggles, with their futuristic style, feature a matte black front and loops, silver mirror lenses, and an adjustable jacquard strap decorated with Cannage, the iconic graphic pattern of the maison, along with the star symbol of Stone Island, as well as the Dior and Stone Island signatures. Polo Ralph Lauren focuses on lightness, durability, comfort, and color, offering the Expedition model, which, as the name suggests, is a true invitation to freedom and exploration of new spaces. Made of injected material, it comes with removable faux leather side shields and cord, and is available in two versions: shiny green frame with light gray-silver mirrored lenses, and shiny navy blue frame with shiny orange temples and red mirrored lenses. Pure energy, style, and protection coexist in all of these models. So, are you ready to embark on a new adventure?
