Journey through Italy following an imaginary Grand Tour. In the footsteps of great writers and unique eyewear

A journey through Italy. Cultural souvenirs. Nomadic images and atmospheres. It was not only the places that, mainly between the 18th and 19th centuries, attracted intellectuals, writers and young people from the European upper middle class. They came from afar, facing extremely demanding journeys to consume beauty above all, and translate it into experiences, visions, books, poems. A true initiation rite, as it was for Lord Byron and Goethe who left their indelible mark on the histories of cities, including Venice and Ravenna... And yes, beauty. We cannot do without it. An ephemeral good that improves our lives. In fact, it is precisely intangible assets that make us think more about the substance of things, the value of objects. Without having a precise route in mind, our imaginary itinerary thus begins in Sicily, with Dolce & Gabbana glasses immediately taking us to the heart of the island with the unmistakable motifs of Sicilian majolica or carts. They taste of holidays, new discoveries. They smell of sun, blossoming orange blossoms, Mediterranean scrub, saltiness. While the slender steel frame and the shaded, luminous lenses of Eyepetizer's Capri glasses evoke, with their ethereal lightness, the fluid, marine transparencies of that legendary island, at times suspended between sky and water, visually bringing us back to the home of writer Curzio Malaparte, poised on a spur of rock, ready to plunge into the abyss to become symbol, myth, legend. Among the absolute myths of fashion is Valentino, who invariably takes us to Rome, where the brand was founded in 1959. "La dolce vita" comes to life above all in the V-Romask mask, dedicated precisely to the city and made by Akoni, a Swiss company that drew on the maison's archives and revived a familiar lexicon.  But the absolute symbol of La Dolce Vita is definitely him, Marcello Mastroianni, whom Anita Ekberg, immersed in the Trevi Fountain, calls out. Even in his films, the actor often wore the iconic Persol 649 glasses, a brand that has never lost its authenticity and identity over time, thanks also to the presence of three structural elements that make it instantly recognisable: the Victor Flex bridge, the Meflecto flexible temple system and the Supreme arrow. Precisely the same ones that today also characterise the model 0PO3319S Tom (in the opening photo).

Our journey continues to sunny Apulia. Dedicated to Anna Piaggi, the eccentric fashion muse, is the capsule collection of 100 pieces of the AnnAcronista model by Bayria Eyewear, a brand made in Apulia and very attached to its origins, combined with an original hat created by Pasquale Bonfilio, a famous milliner who is also proudly Apulian. In two-tone black and beige acetate, AnnAcronista has a large, soft butterfly shape, symbolising the absolute freedom with which the journalist wrote and dressed, often appearing at fashion shows with a lorgnette... More classic also in the choice of material, a havana acetate, is the Sybaris sunglass model with sculptured geometric lines and wide temples. Moving on from the murrinas and gondolas of Venice, which inspired visionary opticians to create unique models that seduced even architects such as Carlo Scarpa and Le Corbusier, we arrive at the last stop on our short journey, Florence. And we do so with a special guest, Gucci, whose DNA is closely linked to its roots, to an exclusive symbolic alphabet of codes taken from the past, including the detail of the equestrian-inspired green and red web ribbon that crosses the shaft of model GG1301S, obtained through skilful milling of the multilayer acetate. The journey as a metaphor for a change but also for a return and an encounter, like that of Ermanno Scervino with L.G.R. On the one hand the Tuscan brand that has always cultivated values such as heritage and unique craftsmanship, on the other Luca Gnecchi Ruscone, who shares the same vision, the same sensibilities. After following in the footsteps of his grandfather, the owner of an opticians' shop in Asmara, he became so passionate about the 'trade' that he wanted to create his own brand of exclusive frames with attention to detail. Together they created a capsule collection L.G.R. for Ermanno Scervino. One timeless model, Reunion Metal Explorer (nomen omen), in acetate and metal with side flaps and available in three versions, ideal for continuing this imaginary Grand Tour, pushing on to other destinations. Enjoy the journey...
