Elegant and functional profiles, reinterpreted vintage inspirations, versatility, and meticulous attention to quality: the eyewear collections from Iron Paris, Press Eyewear, and Akila are the perfect complement for a contemporary and dynamic work environment, seamlessly adapting with style to various occasions
Minimalist design, neutral tones and vintage inspiration. These are the diktats defining one of the most widespread eyewear trends of the moment. you can call it ‘office core’ or ‘corpcore’, both terms converge on a single aesthetic – one that elevates office attire beyond the confines of the workplace, making eyeglasses the accessory ‘du jour’ in any situation. This trend is championed by fashion shows, as well as by TikTok and Instagram users where corporate style hashtags have garnered millions of views.
Eyeglasses, however, have precise characteristics: clean lines and classic shapes that integrate well with formal or semi-formal attire, and sober tones to maintain an elegant and professional appearance. The inspiration comes from the '90s and early 2000s: think of Bella hadid’s librarian-inspired looks with striped button-up shirts, plaid skirts and eyeglasses, or gisele Bündchen’s brief yet elegant appearance as Serena in the iconic film ‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ This aesthetic, adhering to specific rules, transcends fashion to represent a true cultural shift. With generation z entering the workforce, there has been a growing demand for clothing that allows for expression of independence and empowerment without sacrificing professionalism. Influencers and celebrities have championed this style, helping to popularise it. This evolution in eyewear addresses the need for accessories that are both functional and stylish. The changing work dynamics, with more people working in a hybrid mode between the office and home, have increased the desire for versatile frames – perfect for a professional look in the office and chic enough for any other occasion. Sophisticated design details and high-quality materials have contributed in transforming them into status symbols.
Among the independent brands responding to this trend, Iron Paris, founded in 2015 by Cédric Achache, draws inspiration from the values of resilience and strength reflected in its name that pays homage to the 'Dame de fer'. Influenced by Japanese culture and iconic manga, Achache has created a unique aesthetic universe, blending modernity with reminiscences of the past. The meticulously crafted frames offer characterful models that enhance facial features, perfectly balanced between elegance and practicality, thus meeting the need for accessories that are suitable for both office and social occasions.
Press Eyewear, launched last spring, is establishing itself as an innovative protagonist of the office core style. The inaugural collection is defined by understated luxury, with pure frames constructed from premium materials. Each piece is crafted from eco-conscious materials, reflecting the brand’s commitment to sustainability. Designed to ensure comfort during long hours in front of the computer, the collection responds to the demands of the modern workplace with a balance between functionality and elegant design. The minimalist lines and premium materials are ideal for a chic and contemporary office look.
California-based brand Akila has just unveiled a new collection inspired by The Beatles White Album, celebrating the mod era with a contemporary twist. While evoking the retro elegance of times gone by, the designs are reinterpreted with a modern touch and represent a fascinating evolution of the geek trend towards office core. The revisited classic silhouettes offer impeccable versatility to easily transition from professional to casual settings. Sustainable materials such as bio-acetate and scratch- resistant lenses underline the brand’s commitment to quality and practicality, celebrating a dynamic and contemporary lifestyle.
