The allure of water

The irresistible allure of water and a parallel world. Fluid effects and transparencies, but also the light filtering in from the depths and seabed are transferred into glasses in which you can really "immerse" your gaze.

Water has always exerted a special, irresistible fascination that is difficult to escape. A mysterious and essential element for the survival of our planet, especially at the present time, it is now no longer enough to evoke it with a colour, blue or azure, but through shades that bring to mind aquariums or the sea and ocean floor. In line with the trend to often use dynamic colours, which transmigrate into other shades by interacting with light and thus inspiring emotions, companies explore different colour possibilities.

To make the flowing effect even more realistic, Bust Out Eyewear with the unisex Marcus II model in acetate (in the opening photo), inspired by deconstructionism, also makes use of irregular contours and streaks of different light and dark shades. More profound are those of the Bayria Eyewear model, where light blue is combined with black and a sophisticated shape, sculpted with bold and important thicknesses for a three-dimensional effect. With its bold lines, Taurinum, which is part of the Callas & Onassis collection, wants to retrace the tormented love story and unmistakable style of the opera soprano and the Greek-born ship owner, who were often photographed with eyewear models made especially for them.

J.F. Rey's search for colour and material contrasts is decidedly sophisticated. In the women's April sunglasses model, inspired by the glamour of the 1970s, he constructs a complex geometric architecture using transparent acetate and a thin decorative metal line, without forgetting the functional aspect with the flex hinge and polarising nylon sunlenses. Instead, it is the milling that moves model 75377 from Look's Moda collection. Polygonal in shape, the slender prescription frame is made of acetate processed to lighten its weight, while the comfort of the fit is ensured by special attention to the shape of the nose. The result is an accessory that is delicate but at the same time has character and personality.

Some, like Etnia Barcelona, have even based their entire new collection and advertising campaign, created with the support of AI, on the effect of light filtering underwater and changing colours, calling it Underwater. Even the names of the models refer to that underwater, parallel world, such as Beluga, which echoes the play of marine chiaroscuro, alternating solid colours with transparencies. The same ones that also characterise the Edison model by Gigi Studios, a light, essential and contemporary men's optical frame, available in two calibres and with great attention to detail. The thin acetate has a perfectly smooth translucent surface that captures light reflections. Surprising and almost insubstantial is Alaïa's AA0079S sunglasses with their uncertain contours that really seem to be made of nothing but pure, fresh water, an effect also amplified by the tone-on-tone blue lenses. In fact, the irregularly moulded material seems to pander to the unpredictable flow and elusive substance of this natural element. So are you ready to dive in?
