Not just a colour, but the symbol of cancer awareness and the leitmotif of a capsule collection created by the eyewear designers of The Council of Fashion Designers of America to celebrate their first 10 years with CFDA
What does the colour lavender call to mind? Surely the Swifties will immediately think of the video and the song "Lavender Haze" by Taylor Swift, which refers to the feeling you experience when you are in love. There are those who will imagine Provence, with its endless fields distinguished by the characteristic chromatic tone, which has been a source of inspiration for many artists. To others, it will evoke the unmistakable scent to which a calming power is attributed. But lavender has even deeper meanings, such as cancer awareness, of which it has become the emblem. This is why, to celebrate their first ten years with CFDA, the eyewear designers of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (edCFDA) decided to take inspiration from this colour by creating a capsule collection and allocating a percentage of the sales proceeds to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation for Childhood Cancer.
The story behind this foundation is the moving story of a brave girl called Alexandra Scott. On the other hand, the group of edCFDA designers led by Christian Roth and formed by Blake Kuwahara (Blake Kuwahara Eyewear), Christian Roth and Eric Domege (Christian Roth Eyewear), Gai Gherardi and Barbara McReynolds (L.A. Eyeworks), Jeff Press (Press Eyewear), Patty Perreira (Barton Perreira) and Selima Salaun (Selima Optique) is no stranger to charity initiatives, and in these ten years has widely demonstrated sensitivity, generosity and empathy towards the most disadvantaged or marginalised categories. For this new project, each of them has chosen a model from their own collection, creating it in lavender, according to their own style and personality.
For example, with Jean Jeweled, Barton Perreira has created a real gem by revisiting the classic aviator and making it luxurious with the insertion of 0.35 ctw pink sapphires on the bridge and temples. It is, on the other hand, the exclusive "frame-within-a-frame" concept that has now become his signature that characterises the Nivola model by Blake Kuwahara Eyewear. It is a unique effect created by the fusion of two different frames and obtained by using a proprietary lamination process. For Christian Roth Eyewear, colour is just an impression, a fleeting light, a flash; a slight reflection on the thin profile of the metal frame of the panto-shaped model with mirrored lenses. Selima Optique has also opted for metal, which defines the decisive lines of Harumi sunglasses with a double bridge and rectangular lenses softened by bevels. And there is no lack of personality either in the brave Gaston frame by l.a. Eyeworks (in the opening photo) where skilful milling makes the large volumes sculptural, lightening them with the transparencies of acetate and with an ethereal lavender shade. Press Eyewear also plays with transparency and significant thicknesses of Mazzucchelli bio-acetate, choosing a definite, absolute shade for the Daze model. Following one of the many passions and inspirations of Jeff Press, Daze celebrates the greatest filmmakers, revisiting the panto shape to make it contemporary and timeless at the same time. And it is certainly independence and passion that create a bond between these eyewear designers who, nevertheless, at the right time, know how to turn passion into compassion.
