Glasses become an extension of our body, with piercings, chains, accessories and details that convey our multiple identities and passions. Surprising and unique.
Expect the unexpected (and excuse the word play), especially from a pair of glasses, an accessory that greatly defines non-verbal communication, modifying not only the wearer's facial expression but also their posture, and immediately transmitting the first pieces of information about their personality. Pierre Cardin had already understood this in the 60s and 70s, creating fully-fledged metal sculptures that decorated the face and emphasised the gaze, or plexiglass masks that were a nod to adventures in space, and to science fiction fantasies inspired by unknown worlds... Of course functionality took a back seat, but what about the wow effect? Glasses are therefore a pretext, a starting point for a synthetic representation of contemporaneity, the present and the future, and a point at which parallel stories and passions are intertwined. Surfaces treated as a second skin, shapes and details that lend themselves to representing our plural, multifaceted and contradictory identities.
At the S/S 2025 men's fashion show by Japanese designer Junya Watanabe, it could only be Kuboraum's glasses that transformed the looks, complementing and enhancing those transgressive outfits by the techno-couture designer who explores classic styles by deconstructing them and delving into punk paths only to then surpass them. Unexpected languages, to be precise. On the other hand, Kuboraum is the emblem of how it is possible to cross the boundaries of experimentation, creating "masks" that are the incredible result of true creative alchemy where different elements coexist, in perfect harmony with the style of Junya Watanabe. Extreme and bold glasses, completely adorned by piercings and thus becoming the extension and expression of one's body.
Piercings and chains also feature for the young Alessia Alizé Pappé who, with her Alessia Alizé collection for Key Optical Europe, continues the family tradition in eyewear, bringing a strong and decidedly personal touch with her passion for Techno music and for an underground, genderless and inclusive style. More discreet but no less impactful is Jimmy Choo's Kristal model in thin metal with a revisited cat-eye shape and a more angular outline, with crystals applied directly to the lenses and which become charms that sway on the temples together with the pendant with the JC monogram. An absolute object of desire created by the world-famous brand, which is especially renowned for its iconic shoes, adored by stars such as Sarah Jessica Parker. And, speaking of unusual charms and accessories, Huma Eyewear has even made it the distinctive feature of its collection. From bandanas to ethnic necklaces, from pearls to chains, up to garments such as vests and hats, everything can be connected to the glasses that can also become protagonists of events and special arrangements, thanks to a new personalised service offered by Huma.
But in the end, what is more unexpected and uncontrollable than a "doodle"? And this is precisely the name of one of Masahiro Maruyama's bold and courageous collections, characterised by an absolutely free design that draws not only a new asymmetrical trajectory on the face, blending with the wearer's facial features and transforming them into a work of art, but also a new aesthetic. It is what he himself calls "unfinished art". Wow!
